Principal Competitive Intelligence Manager - Search Platform

We are looking for a Principal Competitive Intelligence Manager for the Elasticsearch Platform. Elastic competes in a diverse and constantly evolving space, and this individual will ensure our executives and sales teams remain informed and armed with the information they need to be successful in the market.

In this role, you’ll be working closely across product marketing, product management, sales, solution architecture, and other internal teams to deliver insights, trends and recommendations to continually improve Elastic’s competitive edge. This highly impactful position needs a doer to collaborate with internal partners and external sources to build messaging and drive enablement by developing technical content (blogs, battle-cards, briefs, presentations, whitepapers, etc.). The team is diverse and distributed across the world, and collaborates daily over GitHub, Zoom, and Slack. You don’t always need to be the person with the answer but should be able to guide discussions to help the team make decisions together.


Some of the things you’ll work on


  • Coordinate competitive research and enablement efforts and craft relevant messaging and collateral
  • Actively track market trends and industry developments to effectively prioritize how we will respond
  • Build in-depth market analyses and hands-on product research vital to keeping our collateral up-to-date
  • Participate in significant industry events to stay current
  • Lead internal competitive enablement sessions and ideate with sales, product, and engineering teams
  • Build subject-matter expertise and credibility vital to independently assist the sales force on competitive calls
  • Partner with the broader product marketing team to create assets to support sales-led programs including playbooks, technical collateral, videos, blog support, etc.


What Experience You Will Bring


  • Experience using or managing Elasticsearch is strongly preferred, experience in enterprise search or similar data platforms background will be considered
  • Application or Software development background is a plus
  • Experience with some or all of the following
  • Terraform
  • AWS CloudFormation
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • Familiar with deployment and operation of workloads within AWS, Google Cloud and Azure cloud environments
  • Comfortable with communicating to non-experts, must be able to explain and educate audiences, through blogs, videos, in-person customer discussions and webinars


Desired Experience


  • Prior experience as a technical marketing engineer, or as a pre-sales engineer, with cloud technologies
  • Experience implementing one or more of Elastic’s solutions in customer environments
  • Familiar with search and observability solutions like OpenSearch, MongoDB, SQL, PostGres, Algolia, etc. and native services on cloud providers


Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.


The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below.


These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.


An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.


The typical starting salary range for this role is:


$135,700—$214,705 USD


The typical starting salary range for this role in the select locations listed above is:


$163,100—$258,060 USD
