Description

The Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence will play a critical role within Wave and drive Wave’s competitive intelligence efforts across its clinical, preclinical, and discovery programs. They will report to the Senior Director, New Product Planning and Corporate Strategy and will have broad cross-functional engagement across the organization. The role will lead assessment of the evolving competitive landscape and dynamics for target programs / therapeutic areas and develop strategic insights on the external landscape to inform business decisions, program strategy, and key initiatives. The opportunity will provide broad visibility across the company, and the successful candidate will serve as a key partner to the program teams and senior leadership within Wave.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) required; Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, DVM, MS) preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in consulting, biotechnology investing, biotechnology venture capital, competitive intelligence, new product commercialization/planning, medical communications, and/or market research within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform landscape surveillance and drive competitive and market intelligence through a consistent and deep understanding of peer programs, relevant platform technologies, and current and future market dynamics
  • Communicate real-time updates to the organization on competitive developments, including analyzing and summarizing new data and highlighting strategic implications for Wave and its programs
  • Develop materials summarizing the competitive landscape and deliver quarterly competitive reports in key areas of interest
  • Analyze landscape for new potential targets and indications to determine current and future treatment paradigms, competition, and future unmet needs
  • Establish competitive foundation for Wave’s early stage programs
  • Collaborate with program teams and cross-functional stakeholders, including New Product Planning, Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Medical Communications, Research, and others to provide insights on competitors and external landscape to inform business decisions, program strategy, target product profiles, forecasts, and other deliverables
  • Collaborate with New Product Planning and other stakeholders on competitive wargame exercises and other new product planning-related projects and strategic initiatives
  • Attend relevant conferences and collaborate with Medical Communications and other functions to monitor competitive and external developments

Key Skills

  • Extremely strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to digest and summarize complex medical and scientific information using terms and concepts that are most relevant and appropriate for different audiences
  • Track record of cross-functional collaboration, including success working in a high-science environment and with senior leaders
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, organizational skills, and an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Experience in both rare and common diseases is preferred
