About the role

As a Competitive Intelligence (CI) Specialist on the Revenue Competitive Intelligence Team, you’ll be a part of a group of competitive analysts and managers supporting global and regional teams across Sales, Partnerships, Marketing, and Merchant Success. The CI Specialist will serve as the conduit between Competitive Intelligence and Sales by partnering with competitive subject matter experts to collect, create, and share actionable competitive insights while shaping competitive GTM strategies within Shopify’s Retail POS products (e.g. Point of Sale) and future products over time.

This role will be responsible for deeply understanding the competitive landscape, gathering intelligence, building competitive positioning, providing deal intelligence at all stages of the sales cycle, and helping to create sales and marketing campaigns. When successful, this role will accelerate merchant acquisition, and increase competitive win rates.

Responsibilities:

  • Become a competitive expert, advocate, and specialist for Shopify’s Retail POS products. Serve as the go-to-resource and leader for understanding where our competitors are focused, and the strengths and weaknesses of their offerings as compared to Shopify.
  • Lead the proactive competitive intelligence initiative. Monitor news and industry sources to have a nuanced understanding of the competitive landscape - and identify when competitive opportunities arise.
  • Scope and size identified opportunities to leverage across Sales, Business Development, and GTM. Work with stakeholders to build competitive positioning, source leads, create outbound sales and marketing campaigns.
  • Expand, validate and update battlecard content, providing further insight into product comparisons, competitor claims, objection handling, sales strategies, sales assets and more.
  • Be a primary point of contact between Retail Sales and Competitive Intelligence. Build and leverage a roster of internal competitive subject matter experts across the organization and manage those relationships.
  • Facilitate interviews and live sessions focused on deep dives and best practices - incorporating findings to translate real world perspectives into sales strategies.
  • Lead and expand program initiatives to increase impact and effectiveness.
  • Partner closely with Competitive Intelligence Managers on program growth and direction. Collaborate and coordinate with research vendors when applicable.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Previous experience serving in Market Research,Competitive Intelligence, Product Marketing function OR Sales, Business Development, Account Management, or Enablement with a competitive focus while in the role.
  • Familiar with B2B SaaS sales cycles, funnels, KPIs, and organizational dynamics.
  • Proactive, independent thinker with high energy and a positive attitude.
  • Proven ability to find unique and efficient approaches to developing and delivering a plan and continually looking for a better way to do things
  • Desire to work in a highly collaborative team environment where you make each other better
  • Desire for high impact; being involved and do something incredible
  • Great communicator, with anticipation and desire to be highly visible internally

Bonus experience:

  • Experience and knowledge of the Retail POS competitive landscape and key players.
  • Knowledge of the e-commerce industry and the players within the competitive landscape
  • Experience in conducting primary market research that drove actionable insights.
  • Experience with Competitive Intelligence technologies such as Klue or Crayon.
